Listen first. Then discover.

The first time you open a lesson, the dialogue reveals itself as you listen.

The lines are blurred at first, then become readable as you hear them — and stay that way. Assimil’s guidance is no longer a paragraph you might skim past: it becomes an experience. And if you would rather start by reading, “Show the dialogue” is still available.

Notes exactly where they help

Notes appear under the sentence they explain: in full, collapsed to their first line, or only on request.

They no longer always open in a panel that covers the page, and the mode can be changed at any time from the lesson toolbar.

Move from one section to the next in a single gesture

At the bottom of a section, keep scrolling: the next one rises under your finger.

It shows you clearly where you are heading; let go to continue, scroll back to stay. The same gesture works the other way, from the top of a section, to return to the previous one. You move through the lesson without taking your eyes off the page.

Keep track of your exercises

A progress line shows the sentences you have finished and the ones still to do.

It stays accurate even when you answer out of order. The essential controls — check, show the answers and switch keyboards — stay at the bottom of the screen, always in the same place.

Vocabulary you can read at once

In “New words”, every word shows its translation without your having to open it.

No more opening fourteen entries to discover fourteen meanings: the whole list can be taken in at a glance. Tap a word to open its full entry in full-screen view.

The same landmarks everywhere

The dialogue, the study section and the exercises have been rethought as a single whole.

Sentence numbers sit in the same column, the play buttons keep the same size and the same position, and the headings start at the same height. You move from one screen to the next naturally, without having to find your bearings again.

Also

• Assimil’s advice now appears at the head of a section, at the moment when it is genuinely useful.
• Assimil’s closing message for a lesson now appears at the end, on the self-assessment page, rather than in a window as you open it.
• The cultural note finds its natural place at the end of “Study”.

Your exercises are graded fairly

Some exercises returned a grade that did not match your work: a “0/10” when you had answered correctly, or the same grade whatever you had written. The calculation now rests on what you actually typed.

An exercise you have not graded yet shows no grade at all rather than a zero, and a sentence left blank no longer borrows the grade of the exercise. Clearing a translation really removes it.

“Start over” really starts over

Redoing an exercise now clears all of your answers, on screen and on your account alike: nothing reappears while you work through it again. And in courses whose exercise sentences carry no number, your answers no longer overwrite one another.

A note no longer hides the sentence it comments on

Tapping a note marker opened a panel that could cover the very sentence being explained. The page now shifts just enough to keep it in view, and no further. Panels and side sheets also dim the lesson less: you keep reading what the note is about.

Creating an account after a guest purchase

Buying a course without an account and then signing up with an address already known led to a dead end. The app now takes you to sign-in instead, and your guest data joins your account without ever overwriting what it already holds.

• The “My courses” list no longer freezes after opening a course and coming back.
• Exercise levels and screen-reader announcements follow the language of the course.
• Breton, Catalan and Corsican have their flags back.
• Switching palettes no longer mismatches the colours, nor drops you out of System mode.

Your answers no longer disappear

In some cases, marking a lesson as complete erased the answers you had typed into its exercises. This is fixed, and the app now refuses to overwrite an exercise that already holds your work.

Offline, the app picks up on its own

When a course has not been downloaded yet and you have no connection, it no longer invites you to retry endlessly: it explains the situation, then opens on its own as soon as the network is back. And a passing outage is no longer reported as missing content.

• Revision lessons no longer show an exercise they do not contain.
• Long labels are no longer cut off in the menu.

Your progress finds you again

Picking a course back up on a new device is now reliable, even when the network is slow on first launch. And where progress had been lost, it is recovered.

Purchases go through

Some purchases were failing for no visible reason. That is fixed — and should it happen again, the purchase retries on its own.

• Fixed brief freezes.
• Fixed a crash on the Tab key, on computers.
• Much faster start without an internet connection.
• A lesson that is not downloaded says so clearly, with a way back.
• The store now warns you when it is briefly unavailable.

Everything works from the keyboard

On computers, the app can now be used entirely without a mouse: every control takes a crisp outline as you reach it, menus and dialogs close with a single key, and a lesson plays without ever leaving the keyboard.

A lighter app

The app has shed several megabytes: it downloads faster and takes up less room on your device. Your courses lost nothing — only files that had become useless over the versions were removed.

A dependable start, even offline

The app now opens smoothly when you are offline, and finds the courses you have already downloaded. And if startup fails anyway, the screen tells you what actually happened instead of blaming your connection.

A big step for accessibility

The app is now comfortable to use with a screen reader: purchasing, lesson playback and exercises are fully usable, with spoken announcements for results and progress.

And for everyone: larger buttons and stronger contrasts.

Light, dark… or like your device

The theme picker gains a “System” mode: the app automatically follows your device's day-night setting and switches live when it changes. Your current choice is kept as is.

Know where each purchase came from

Each purchased course now shows where and when you got it. And the “My account” screen lists all your purchases. Handy for finding your bearings, especially for an invoice or refund request.

• Signing in, signing out and switching accounts made more reliable: each account's library stays strictly its own.
• Fixed a possible freeze when opening lesson notes.

The store speaks your language

The store now opens on the courses taught in your language. The “I speak” row at the top shows the active filter and lets you change it with a tap — and when you browse other catalogues, every course clearly states its teaching language.

No more teaching-language mix-ups

Open, try or buy a course taught in a language other than your app's, and a chooser presents both versions — the one you picked and the one designed for your language, recommended. One tap continues with either. Each version is designed for its audience, not translated: adapted explanations, examples and cultural references.

Your delivery code, step by step

Got an Assimil box or a code received by email? The app now walks you through the three steps to unlock your course, from the home screen or the menu. It reminds you which email address to use, so your course appears automatically when you come back.

Listen to “Les Plus” paragraph by paragraph

In the “Les Plus” sections, each recap paragraph now has its own play button — no need to restart the whole track to hear one passage again. This version also makes interface language switching and purchase restoration at startup more reliable.

Three consolidation updates

After the redesign, three closely spaced releases fixed what you reported:

• 5.1.3 (16 July) — the “Continue” button opens your current lesson again; the corrections of the fill-in exercise no longer overlap; recording stops when you change sentence.
• 5.1.2 (29 June) — better rendering of Greek text and stability fixes.
• 5.1.1 (24 June) — display fixes for the “Les Plus” sections, the lexicon and the exercises.

The new reading experience becomes the standard

A turning point: the modern lesson presentation — refined typography, rethought navigation, sentence-by-sentence mode in the study view — became the app's single experience. It is the foundation every following version builds on.

That foundation also carries over earlier gains: built-in keyboards for non-Latin scripts in the fill-in exercise, long-press on a sentence to copy or share it, and support for your system text size.

The new reading experience makes its debut

A smoother experience. More immersive. This major version introduced an all-new lesson presentation, offered as an option: you could discover it with a tap from the menu, and switch back freely.
